About Hair Mechanics

Jesko and Julie established Hair Mechanics in 2006 and set out to create a warm, friendly, welcoming city centre salon to give their clients a time out from the stresses of daily life.

Hair Mechanics has grown into a much loved Salon in Newcastle City Centre which led to winning the 2021 England’s Business Awards – Best Business in Newcastle and the Phorest 5* customer experience award for 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Hair Mechanics strength lies in the individuals who create the Team, each one has their own specialised area of knowledge and expertise for you to choose from. We also have Independent Stylists who worked alongside us.

Jesko originates from Germany, so besides English, we can also offer German as an in salon language. The Team works with professional brands like Schwarzkopf, Eleven Australia, American Crew, Shed and Quif Quint:essential to deliver all the latest technologies, techniques, products and services to satisfy your wishes, hopes and dreams.

The Hair Mechanics Team considers in depth hair consultations, the key to providing the highest standards of customer care. These lead to the perfect harmony of tailored cuts and bespoke colours, helping you to reach your happy zone. We can now offer you a privacy screen.

The aftercare advice and products recommended by the Hair Mechanics Team will enable you to maintain your look and keep you in your happy place, even at home.

The salon is situated in a charming 200 year old Grade-ll listed building on Thornton Street next to Tilly’s Bar, the Tyne Theatre stage door and around the corner from the theatre’s entrance, close to Dance City, the city walls, China Town, The Centre for life and Science Central. We are nestled within the conservation area of Newcastle.

If you are coming to see us by car there is metered on street parking at Waterloo Street which leads you onto the square or Grainger Town Multi Story carpark. If you are traveling by train, metro or bus the central train station is a five minute walk away.

Bios

Jesko – love brought Jesko to the U.K., winning a few awards and an 8 week stint on the tv series ‘Hairdo’ brought him to open up Hair Mechanics. A master craftsman in hairdressing with a warm personality, his style combined with his passion for hair gives the foundation for the ongoing success of Hair Mechanics, despite his quirky taste in music!

Emily – Emily is our level 3 Stylist with her ever expanding repertoire. She thrives on customer service – let her bring sunshine into your life!!

Julie – Julie is known as the Numbers Queen, the boss woman holding the reins.

Doing our bit

We are aware that there is no planet B and with this in mind we have always aimed to be as energy efficient, water efficient and environmentally friendly as we can without compromising the quality of our services and products we offer.

That is why we introduced an in-salon refill service for you to enjoy your favourite care products at home without the guilt of constant new packaging.

We use Eleven Australia care and styling products which are made with Native Australian ingredients. All products are PETA cruelty free, paraben free, sulphate fee and some are vegan and gluten free as well. All packaging is made from recyclable materials.

We offer a range of Schwarzkopf Igora colours including Zero Ammo hair, colour which is ammonia free, the Schwarzkopf Osis styling and finishing products are 50% natural, Igora Royal colour range is vegan except for the Igora Absolute range. The Schwarzkopf Igora colours use the minimum amount of chemicals needed to achieve the required results. All Schwarzkopf packaging is now made from recycled aluminium, plastic and paper, the BC Clean Performance range uses advanced vegan technology to achieve a clean formula, meaning, the products are free of sulphates, silicones and parabens.

We are always on the look out for new products to expand and fit with our ethos.

We have teamed up with the Green Salon Collective to recycle hair in 10+ ways along with foils and tubes to stop them ending up in landfill. We charge a green fee of £1.00 per visit – non mandatory to find out more go to https://www.greensaloncollective.com
